An improvised explosive device has claimed the life of another Canadian soldier. Two others were injured in the incident that took the life of Lt. Justin Garrett Boyes, 26, of the 3rd Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry based in Edmonton.
Boyes was killed when his foot patrol was hit by an explosion southwest of Kandahar City in Panjwayi district.
Boyes was only 10 days into his second deployment to Afghanistan. Boyes and his men were was training an Afghan national police patrol when the bomb exploded.
The two other soldiers wounded in the blast were treated at the Kandahar Airfield medical facility. They are reported to be in good condition.
Boyes is survived by his wife Alanna and James, his three year old son. Boyes has a brother serving with the 2nd Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in Shilo, Manitoba.
