Zig Misiak is a Brantford based educator, producer and historian.  While his primary work is creating educational material focused on First Nations history and culture, his interest and passion for Canada’s veterans and military heritage was the catalysis for the  production of  a video about local WWII veterans.

The video entitled “For Your Freedom and Ours,” is comprised of interviews of 19 different accounts of WWII.  Included on the 55 minute DVD are Polish War Veterans, Six Nations Veterans and a British Naval Pilot.  Famous hockey father and sports personality Walter Gretzky recounts the story of his father who fought in WWI and was later held in Siberia.

The productions was a not-for-profit project created to support Remembrance Day events and serve as a teaching aid for educators. The DVD will be offered free of charge to all schools in Brantford, Six Nations, and Brant County.  Approximately 110 DVDs will be distributed before Remembrance Day.

The DVD is available to other groups and individuals for a small fee to cover costs, $15.99 plus shipping.  You can order the DVD from the Real People’s History web site at:  www.realpeopleshistory.com/ww2-veterans-dvd/

There is a five minute sample of the DVD at: http://www.realpeopleshistory.com/dvd-sample/ that offers a preview of the documentary. If the samples are any indication this DVD is a must-have for educators and history buffs interested in the WWII history, specifically those who served from Brantford, Brant County and the Six Nations.
